Thrifty Thursdays: #Surviveon35 Summary

Lets see: 2 girls, $33. How did we do so far? Well, actually, it hasn’t been that bad, just a lot of leftovers. Could I do this forever? Yep! Is it easy? No. Mainly, it requires a lot of thought and planning. I like it though, it caused me to get creative with my cooking and meal planning this week. When I restock on Saturday I will have to get staples like milk, eggs, and peanut butter. This week really helped me realize just how much money I waste on junk and fast food. Because of this, I am going to give it up for the month of August as well. I mean, I very rarely eat it now, (maybe 2-3 times a month) but I want to go cold turkey and clean up my eating habits a bit more. I will do another post Saturday as my official wrap up to week 1 of my #surviveon35.

Later!

#Surviveon35 Grocery Haul

So today was my first time ever going to the local farmers market. The last time I went to one, I was 11, living in Detroit. It was cool seeing all the different people, and all the food from all over the world. I will be back 🙂

So I went over my budget. I will just have to cut some things next week. I also learned that while some things are worth going to the farmers market for, the grocery store is still a good place to go. I probably could have saved a bit more if I had researched sales first.

In terms of planning my meals for the next week, I am also in the process of moving next weekend, so I want to leave here with my kitchen cabinets bare. I will post my meals each day.

Today
Breakfast
Bacon, Eggs, hash browns, and whole wheat waffles with syrup

Lunch
BLT on wheat with mayo
Arizona Tea

Dinner
Baked Potato with sour cream and onion
Protein powder and milk

Thrifty Thursdays: #Surviveon35 Could you survive on $35 a week for groceries?

I read posts on two fellow bloggers (Lean Green Bean and Bess Be Fit)  sites about this challenge and I love the idea. I currently spend $150-$300 on groceries and food per month  for two people both eating out and in. Because of my current financial I have decided to cut back, and I am going to up the ante a bit for myself. I am going to spend $25 a week, between myself and my sister, starting Sunday, on groceries each week. The challenge will end August 26th. I know, I know, crazy right? I won’t be eating out, and I will be taking a lot more time to plan my meals. This challenge will require disclipine and I look forward to it. Good luck to all that are doing the #surviveon35 challenge, however. 🙂
