#Surviveon35 Grocery Haul

So today was my first time ever going to the local farmers market. The last time I went to one, I was 11, living in Detroit. It was cool seeing all the different people, and all the food from all over the world. I will be back 🙂

Dekalb Farmers Market
Bunch of carrots
A lot of celery
4 ears of corn
3 lbs of cabbage
1 green pepper
Head of Lettuce
1 lb of chuck beef
1.5 lbs of apples
2.5 lbs of organic bananas
1 lb tomato

Kroger brand raisin bran
Corned beef hash
Ground espresso
2.5 lbs of chicken breast

Total: 11.95 at Kroger +21.44 at the Farmers Market= 33.39

So I went over my budget. I will just have to cut some things next week. I also learned that while some things are worth going to the farmers market for, the grocery store is still a good place to go. I probably could have saved a bit more if I had researched sales first.

In terms of planning my meals for the next week, I am also in the process of moving next weekend, so I want to leave here with my kitchen cabinets bare. I will post my meals each day.

Bacon, Eggs, hash browns, and whole wheat waffles with syrup

BLT on wheat with mayo
Arizona Tea

Baked Potato with sour cream and onion
Protein powder and milk

Thrifty Thursdays: 10 Ways I Use Vinegar

  1. Sweat stains: I soak my gym gloves and ipod holder in a 1/2 cup of vinegar and a basin of water  for about 15 minutes, rise, and let dry (can also be used on workout clothes)
  2. Ant killer, kills and removes the scent of their trail (great if you have pets)
  3. Kitchen degreaser, (1 part vinegar 1 part water in spray bottle) I use it on my counters after cooking (followed by bleach spray)
  4. Window Cleaner (half vineger and half water in a spray bottle)
  5.  Gets rid of buildup on scalp (soak a cotton ball in it and run it over the part at your scalp)
  6. Dishwasher rinse aid (helps with grease buildup and makes your dishwasher fresher), just put it whereever your rinse aid is supposed to go.
  7. Deodorizer (you can also soak smelly shoes in it, 1 part vinegar, 1 part water, overnight, rinse and let air dry).
  8. Soothes bug bites (cotton ball soaked in it)
  9. Gets rid of warts (put ACV on cotton ball, cover with Band-Aid, leave on over night for 1 week)
  10.  Can be used as a facial toner (1 part vinegar, 2 parts water)
